Las Vegas Eye and Vision Care Practice Embracing Video Blogs for Patient Education

The founder and head eye doctor at New Eyes, Helga F. Pizio, MD, FACS, has recently begun producing a series of video blogs to enhance patients’ understanding of treatments that may be beneficial to them.

Las Vegas, NV – Dr. Helga Pizio says there are a number of myths and misconceptions out there regarding vision and vision correction procedures, and she spends a lot of time with patients in her office debunking those myths. She says the idea of video blogs produced in-house at New Eyes – the Las Vegas eye care practice she founded – came from patients who expressed a desire to be able to review vision correction options in detail in their own homes. Dr. Pizio notes that this new way of enhancing the patient’s overall experience can give people more concrete information as it relates to their own unique needs. “Choices for permanent vision correction are not always intuitive and require good explanation. It’s important to make sure our patients understand their specific eye condition and how I can address their particular problem. I find that difficult vision concepts are better explained in a video format than in just print.”

In a recent blog post on New Eyes’ website titled: “Dr. Pizio Chats About Our New Video Blogs,” the Las Vegas ophthalmologist says topics covered on her video blogs came from questions asked by patients themselves. The videos include discussions about cataract surgery, lens implants, refractive vision conditions such as nearsightedness and farsightedness, and other subjects related to vision correction and eye care. “With the new video blogs, our patients can now view the same detailed explanations of eye conditions and vision corrections that I give in the office in the comfort of their own home. And patients can view videos together with family without having to come back for another office visit.”

Upcoming video blogs will include topics such as new tools Dr. Pizio is using for cataract surgery, including the LenSx laser system, which can be used to improve a number of critical steps in the treatment process. She notes that patient feedback and questions are always welcome for future video topics.

Dr. Pizio says videos can never take the place of personal interactions between the eye doctor and the patient; however, they can be very beneficial for reviewing information, reminding patients of what treatments entail, or as a companion piece to other educational materials. “Videos are a very valuable tool in educating our patients. Our goal is to give our patients all the information they need to feel comfortable and confident with their choice for permanent vision correction.”
